About myself:
Here you can find some information about myself. If you are interested in my work for some personal of professional project you can contact me.
I am 27 years old, born in Preetz near
Kiel.
until 1998 I went to school, the last 9 years to the
Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium
in Preetz. After that I did my 10-month military service at Stadum near
Leck. From 1999 to 2006
I studied mechanical engineering at the
technical university Braunschweig
and am now living in
Freiburg.
studies
In 1999 i started studying mechanical engineering. I specialized on the subjects material sciences, numerical methods and vibrations. I did two student research projects:
In early 2005 I did an internship at
Contitech Vibration Control in Hannover.
In 2006 i finished my studies with a master thesis on Mesoparticle simulation techniques and in August 2006 i moved to
Freiburg where i started working for the
Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials IWM
computer graphics
My computer graphics interests are somewhere between a hobby and a profession for me. I did my first steps in
this area about 10 years ago when i also discovered
POV-Ray - the program
most of my computer graphics activities have evolved around.
POV-Ray, the Persistence of Vision Raytracer is a program for generating photorealistic views of synthetical sceneries. You can find a gallery of examples in the
Hall of Fame. I am member of the Persistence of Vision development team, the group
who is developing and maintaining POV-Ray and makes it available for free to everyone. To learn more about raytracing in general and POV-Ray in particular you should have a look at the raytracing introduction.
More about my POV-Ray related programming work can be found in the programming section.
I wrote three articles for the german
computer magazine
c't:
I am also using POV-Ray for creating images - you can find some of them in the gallery. I create a lot of landscape images - both imaginary and real world landscapes. From time to time i am also doing images as contract work, for example for book cover illustrations.
As part of my POV-Ray related work i recently did a evaluation of the POV-Ray code for its suitability for simulating
Metamaterials. The results of it have been
published in
Photorealistic images of objects in effective negative-index materials (Optics Express, Vol. 14, No. 5).
programming
I am doing various programming work, both related to studies and computer graphics. I have programming experience
in various languages including C/C++, Pascal,
Delphi,
Unix shell script,
IDL and Javascript.
More information on my programming activities can be found in the
programming section.
